Doug’s Bar Sessions

In the spirit of Doug Armstrong’s legendary original music nights, we bring to Rother Street Arts House a new intimate monthly singer songwriter evening from Doug’s Bar.

Clayton Denwood is a Canadian-born singer-songwriter rooted in the traditions of Rock, Folk, Blues, and Country. Denwood has carved out a voice that critics describe as “worldly country-ish… of the Bob Dylan/Neil Young variety” and “a unique sound and sensibility that’s all his own.” His songs carry the dust of long roads, the ache of exile, and the quiet hope of return — themes that have followed him from rural Canada to the storied artistic enclave of Woodstock, New York and later to the UK, where he continues to write, record and perform. For seven years he became known as a “Woodstock musician,” a fixture in local clubs and venues. During those years, Denwood played on bills with world renowned artists including Chris Smither, Joe Elliot, Dave Van Ronk, NRBQ as well as with Levon Helm, Rick Danko and Garth Hudson of The Band.

Linzi Jane Morgan is a Midlands born artist and singer-songwriter who blends soundscapes of soaring rhythmical harmonies and orchestral strings with confessional lyrics and lo-fi earthy beats and acoustic guitars. She captures the loss of core connections with a dose of nostalgia, and an open heart that follows growth through adversity into healing. Morgan teamed up with Paul Johnston and Marion Fleetwood to create her album ‘Love & Other Stories.’

“Beautiful and haunting” “Like finding a tenner in an old pair of jeans”.

Hosted by Jack Blackman.
Jack Blackman is a contemporary singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Warwickshire, recognized as a leading figure in the UK’s acoustic roots and blues scene. Jack has shared the stage with industry legends such as Tony Joe White, PP Arnold, Paul Jones, and Dave Swarbrick of Fairport Convention.
