Event Information

Doug’s Bar Sessions

In the spirit of Doug Armstrong’s legendary original music nights, we bring to Rother Street Arts House a new intimate monthly singer songwriter evening from Doug’s Bar.

Upon release of his debut album in November 2022, Greg Brice received 3 nominations in the 2023 UK Blues Awards, becoming a finalist in the ‘Emerging Act of the Year’ category. He has also been nominated for the 4th year in a row this year – Best Acoustic Act 2026. His intricate fingerstyle guitar and strident electric slide connects in the raw and immediate way that only proper roots music can. And that voice – clear as a bell, powerful and pure.
‘A virtuoso guitarist who sings like Lowell George, you’re gonna like him’ – Andy Kershaw, BBC Radio
Chessi O’ Dowds’ music is often described as Indie folk or Indie Pop-Folk and has drawn comparisons to singers such as Lana Del Rey, Dodie and Beth Orton. Her songwriting is a unique mix of personal insight, loves, struggles and laughs fused with a sunny summer vibe that reaches out to her listeners and entwines her experiences with their own, drawing the listener in. In 2023, Chessi won the ‘Godiva Calling’ songwriter competition to open the Main Stage at Godiva festival, where she was featured on the bill alongside Mel C, Diversity and Trevor Nelson.
Hosted by Jack Blackman.
Jack Blackman is a contemporary singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Warwickshire, recognized as a leading figure in the UK’s acoustic roots and blues scene. Jack has shared the stage with industry legends such as Tony Joe White, PP Arnold, Paul Jones, and Dave Swarbrick of Fairport Convention.
